1. Why should I consider purchasing a natural mattress without getting a chance to lay on it?

It is very hard for most people to feel comfortable with purchasing a mattress online, without ever getting to see or lay on it.  However, there are so few natural and organic mattress stores in the US, that most people will have to purchase online if they want to sleep naturally without the toxic chemicals found in conventional mattresses.  One fact that should make you more comfortable with purchasing a mattress online, is the fact that most people spend only a couple of minutes laying on a mattress in a store.  How comfortable a mattress feels to you after a couple of minutes may differ greatly from how your body feel laying on it all night.  To purchase the right mattress online keep the following in mind:

2. What is the difference between natural rubber and natural latex?

It is the same.  The two terms refer to the same product.

3. I have found a mattress but I don’t know who makes it or how it rates.

There is a good chance that you are looking at a mattress that we have reviewed, but is selling under a different name.  A private label is when a manufacturer lets a retailer use their own name on a mattress.  Sleeptek is one company that sells a private label mattress, for example the Greennest, Oasis, Suite Sleep, and Naturally Organic are all the same mattresses. Ask the retailer who manufactures the mattress you are interested in.

4. Why are your top 4 overall best organic mattresses natural latex/ natural rubber mattresses?

Natural rubber/ natural latex mattresses are simply the best mattresses you can buy.  The natural rubber minimizes pressure points, is anti-microbial, anti-bacterial, dust mites can't live in it, and it will last a long time without creating body impressions.  We included a futon and an innerspring since they are less expensive and we know some people just need to get into a natural mattress but can not make the investment for a natural rubber mattress.

5. What is wrong with cotton in mattresses?

Dust mites live in cotton batting.  They live their entire life cycle in the cotton eating, reproducing, excreting, etc.  Some people have a dust mite allergy which means they have an allergic reaction to the mites, their cast skins, fecal material and secretions.  A dust mite allergy may present as a stuffy or runny nose, sneezing, coughing or watery eyes.  They can also trigger asthma attacks.  Dust mites do not live in wool or natural latex, so these are the best ingredients for a mattress.  See http://healthandenergy.com/dust_mites.htm for more information.

6. What are the negatives of innerspring mattresses?

Innerspring mattresses can create pressure points.  Certain parts of your body push into a mattress more than other; for example, your shoulders and hips.  An innerspring mattress "pushes back" against your body in those exact points.  A pressure point can reduce blood flow to the area which typically makes a person toss and turn.  The more you toss and turn at night, your quality of sleep is compromised.  A natural latex mattress spreads its force across your body evenly, without exerting extra pressure on specific areas like shoulders and hips.  This means you toss and turn less and get a better night's sleep.
