| Simply Organic Sleep
AND Sleep by Nature |
We have been told by 3 people in
the organic mattress industry that Simply Organic Sleep and Sleep by Nature are
owned by or are in association with the previous owners of Pure Slumber**. Pure Slumber has been
out of business after going bankrupt September of 2006 after shorting most
of the major organic mattress manufacturers hundreds of thousands of
dollars (click HERE,
HERE
or HERE
for more info). The companies they owed include Sleeptek, Natura World,
Savvy Rest, Crown City/Vivetique and The Natural Bed Store.
Additionally, they charged many customer's credit cards without delivering them
a mattress. Most of the customers were covered by their credit card
company, and did not end up losing money. The mattress manufacturers
were not covered and all suffered big losses. Due to Simply Organic
Sleep and Sleep by Nature's potential business
practices, we are not reviewing these mattresses.
**Although we trust the sources this information has come from, we do not have paper proof that this is true. We strongly encourage you to independently investigate the mattress manufacturer that you decide to purchase from; and to only purchase from someone you feel confident with. |

*Although in most cases you will mostly be dealing with the retailer, it is still important to know what type of customer service the manufacturer provides to the retailer. There is a chain effect in that if the manufacturer provides good customer service to the retailer, the retailer can provide great customer service to you.
| Manufacturer: | Our thoughts: |
| Sleeptek | We think this is a top notch manufacturer. They have a specific facility that they use for organic mattresses only. The quality of materials is quite high, and each product is made with attention to detail. They tend to have higher prices than some of the other manufacturers, but if you are looking for quality, Sleeptek is the way to go. |
| Natura World | This is a good manufacturer although their main focus is not on organic mattresses. They manufacture other non-organic mattresses in the same facilities. The finished product is attractive and well made. |
| Savvy Rest | We love Savvy Rest. They have an amazing product at an amazing price. Their customer service is unmatched and they work with honor, which is unusual to find in the business world. They choose certified organic materials (including high quality organic wool) and they provide the organic certificates so customers can also be confident in the product they are receiving. Their organic cotton fabric is not quite as soft as some of the other manufacturers, but overall, since one sleeps on sheets, not on the mattress fabric, this should not make a difference to a consumer. |
| Royal Pedic | A common comment about a Royal Pedic mattress is that it is a gorgeous mattress. They pay fine attention to detail and produce a high quality mattress. They also manufacture non-organic mattresses and their focus is not organic mattresses. |
| The Natural Bed Store | This company markets their mattress as an all organic mattress. However, if you order their free sample, you can look see that they are not using all organic materials. Bordering the wool (on the inside of the mattress), is not an organic cotton, but some other type of material. Additionally, they use a non-organic and non-natural material in the side borders of the mattress to meet the flame retardant requirements. |
| Lifekind | Lifekind is dedicated to making an organic mattress in an all organic facility. We feel confident about the quality of mattress they put out. They do use a sand based material mixed in with their wool to help meet the flame retardant standards (most other manufacturers including Sleeptek, Crown City, and Savvy Rest are meeting these requirements with just wool). Our only disappointment with Lifekind is the scare tactic manner in which they try to make consumers feel like they will not be receiving an organic mattress unless they purchase a Lifekind. We think there are several other manufacturers that are dedicated to the quality of the organic products similar to Lifekind. |
| Crown City Mattress
(Vivetique, Pure Rest) |
Although they also make non-organic mattresses in their facility, these mattresses are made in a separate room. This is one of the oldest organic mattress manufacturers in the USA and they produce a good quality product. Some retailers complain of their customer service, and sometimes customers have a long wait for their mattress. |
