The Top 7 Natural Latex Mattresses

#1 The Savvy Rest Natural Latex Mattress- Unmatched in its quality and features.

Manufacturer: Savvy Rest
Quick review: Choose two or three layers of 3” natural latex rubber (choose either natural Dunlop or natural Talalay). The natural latex foam is encased in certified organic cotton and organic wool. You can choose the firmness level of each side of this mattress if you buy a king or queen. Not only can you customize your firmness level; if you aren’t happy with the level you first choose, you can exchange individual pieces of latex until you are content with your firmness level.  This mattress is 100% chemical free and comes with a 20 year warranty.

Compared to other mattresses: Compared to other mattresses: This mattress came in as #1 on our list, because of the following features.

  1. It is one of the very few mattresses that offers certified organic wool
  2. You can customize the firmness level of each layer
  3. You can customize the firmness level of each side of the mattress

#2 Green Sleep natural rubber mattress (The Vimala Sleep System)

Quick review: This mattress has 4” of natural rubber in the middle with two 2” pieces of natural rubber on the top and bottom. The bottom layer is always firm, the top layer is always soft, but you can customize your firmness level of the middle layer. It is encased in organic cotton velour and “pure grow” wool. You can customize your firmness level of the middle layer separately for each side of the mattress. Returns and exchanges depend on each retailer. It is made chemical free. Made in Canada.

Compared to other mattresses: This mattress is top of the line luxury.  We like this mattress because it is very comfortable (and you can partially customize your comfort level). It is a bit pricier, but if you can afford it, it is an absolute "must have"!

#3 Lifekind OrganicPedic natural rubber mattress

Manufacturer: Organic Mattresses Inc./ Lifekind
Quick review: Three layers of of natural Talalay latex is encased in organic cotton fabric and “Naturally Safer” wool.  The bottom two layers are 3" thick and the top layer is a 3.5 inch sculptured layer with 5 separate firmness zones.  You can customize the firmness level of the bottom two layers, and you can customize the firmness level of each side. If you aren’t happy with the original firmness level, you can exchange individual pieces of latex within 90 days. Although Lifekind will have you believe that natural Talalay latex is the only natural latex, we think that Dunlop latex can be an all natural product as well.  This mattress is chemical free but does use silica mixed with the wool to meet the flame retardant requirements. Constructed in the USA in California.

Compared to other mattresses:  We like this mattress because you can customize the firmness level of each layer and you can customize the firmness level of each side of the mattress. This mattress is made chemical free, and it comes with a 20 year warranty.

#4 Natura Eco-Haven

Manufacturer: Natura World
Quick review: Six inches of firm natural talalay latex is wrapped in organic cotton.  This is topped by a separate pillowtop featuring 2 more inches of soft natural talalay latex wrapped in Natura Organic Wool and organic cotton.  This mattress is very comfortable and has more wool than some of the other mattresses for a more plush pillowtop feel.  You can remove the cover and wash it.

Compared to other mattresses: The extra wool adds extra comfort.  There is 8" of latex, which is a more comfortable and plush mattress than just 6" of latex.  You can’t customize your firmness level but you can remove and clean the cover. It comes with a 20 year warranty.

Where to buy: Comfort 1st, The Natural Sleep Store

#5 Royal-Latex Quilt-top Organic Mattress

Manufacturer: Royal-Pedic

Quick review: Five and a half inches of latex is encased in organic cotton batting and untreated wool (however, there is a non-organic cotton option).  As with all cotton fiber, it will compress, attract dust mites, mold, fungi, and other allergens.  This mattress uses 7-zone natural latex which means it has softer latex in the hip and shoulder region and firmer latex in the lumbar back region.  The 7-zone latex contains different firmness levels, but you cannot customize your overall firmness level.  You can return or exchange the mattress within 14 days; however, Royal-Pedic excluded the organic version from the return policy (make sure to confirm with individual retailers as some retailers policies seem to include the organic version).

Compared to other mattresses: You can’t customize your firmness level. However, the 7-zone latex has different firmness levels for each of the 7-zones.  With the 7-zone latex in this mattress, your body is said to line up properly in the 7-zone latex, regardless of your height; however, this just does not make sense to us.  Certainly a 6'5" person would hit the zones differently than a 5'1" person.  However, this sounds like it would only be a problem if your height was at either extreme.
