Our 5 Favorite Organic Mattress Choices (in no particular order)

The Savvy Rest Organic Serenity

Manufacturer: Savvy Rest
Quick review: Three layers of 3” natural latex rubber (choose either natural Dunlop or natural Talalay). The natural latex foam is encased in certified organic cotton and organic wool. You can choose the firmness level of each side of this mattress if you buy a king or queen. Not only can you customize your firmness level; if you aren’t happy with the level you first choose, you can exchange individual pieces of latex until you are content with your firmness level for up to 90 days.  This mattress is 100% chemical free and comes with a 20 year warranty. Also consider the Organic Tranquility (comes with 2 layers of 3" latex instead of 3) if you are seeking a good child mattress.

Bella Sera Nove 3 Organic Mattress

Manufacturer: Bella Sera Organics

Quick Review: This mattress is similar to the Savvy Rest with 3 layers of natural dunlop latex.  You can customize the firmness of each layer and also customize the firmness of each side.  The natural latex is encased in an organic cotton and organic wool cover.  The organic cotton is a slightly stretchy jersey fabric which allows the mattress to conform more to your body than a mattress with a more rigid woven fabric.  If the feel isn't quite right at first, you can purchase new layers of latex for a similar cost of others latex exchanges.  If you are hesitant to purchase before trying, also check out the Nove 4.  At the same cost, you have more options in the latex layers. This mattress is 100% chemical free and comes with a 20 year warranty.

Compared to other mattresses:

  1. The stretchy jersey fabric allows your body to conform to the mattress better
  2. It is one of the few mattresses that offers certified organic wool
  3. You can customize the firmness level of each layer
  4. You can customize the firmness level of each side of the mattress
  5. It has a comfort exchange policy

Natura Eco-Brilliance

Manufacturer: Natura World
Quick review: Six inches of firm natural talalay latex is wrapped in organic cotton.  This is topped by a separate pillowtop featuring 4 more inches of soft natural talalay latex wrapped in Natura Organic Wool and organic cotton.  This mattress is very comfortable and has quite a bit more wool than some of the other mattresses for a more plush pillowtop feel.  You can remove the cover and wash it (follow manufacturer instructions). Also consider the Natura Eco Haven if you do not require as plush of a mattress.

Compared to other mattresses: The extra wool adds extra comfort.  There is 10" of latex, which is a more comfortable and plush mattress than mattresses that have less latex.  You can’t customize your firmness level but you can remove and clean the cover. It comes with a 20 year warranty.

Lifekind "The Traditional" Innerspring Mattress

Manufacturer: Organic Mattresses Inc./ Lifekind
Quick review: We prefer natural latex mattresses for the comfort and for the pressure reducing qualities, however, we realize natural latex is not a perfect fit for everyone.  If you are either allergic to latex (natural latex, not just synthetic latex), prefer a much firmer feel, or want to spend less money, an innerspring mattress might be the right choice for you.  Lifekind is known for having a pure factory and quality organic materials.  We would suggest anyone who is chemically sensitive purchase from Lifekind (get sample materials first to test for sensitivities). Constructed in the USA in California.

Compared to other mattresses:  We like this mattress for people who want a pure mattress and prefer a nice firm feel.

Price of Queen: $2695

Green Sleep Dolcezza Mattress

Manufacturer: Green Sleep
Quick review: This mattress has 4 different layers of natural rubber: they are, from the top down, a 2" soft layer (which is hand tufted to the wool and cotton cover), a 3" customizable layer, another 3" customizable layer, and a 1.5" firm layer.  The bottom layer is always firm, the top layer is always soft, but you can customize your firmness level of the middle layers. It is encased in organic cotton velour and “pure grow” wool from Texel. You can customize your firmness level of the middle layers separately for each side of the mattress. Returns and exchanges depend on each retailer. It is made chemical free. Made in Canada.  Also consider the Green Sleep Vimala mattress if you are seeking a slightly firmer mattress at a lower cost.

Compared to other mattresses: This mattress is top of the line luxury.  We love this mattress because it is very comfortable (and you can partially customize your comfort level). It is a bit pricier, but if you can afford it, it is an absolute "must have"!
